Message from the President of the Rotary Club of Ratnapura
The Rotary Club of Ratnapura has been serving this Gem City and the neighboring villages since 2001 with great responsibility in the areas of Literacy, Career Guidance, Health and Hunger. Our most sentimental projects had been conducting Medical Camps, where we have served more than 1000 patients on Medical treatment and spectacles. Also providing drinking water for 17 schools in and around Ratnapura.
RI President John Kenny, mentioned during his address at the Birmingham Convention that water, health and hunger, and literacy will be our emphases in the year ahead. He very clearly indicated that water is the first emphasis because it is the first necessity for every man, woman, and child, and then sanitation. Therefore, our club’s main view for this year is water and sanitation. Provide water to a village call Lunugamwehera where you find 130 families living without water, and to provide sanitation for those 17 adopted schools in and around Ratnapura.
This year theme simply indicates that “The future of Rotary is in your hands”, it is our responsibility to uphold the standards. Our membership is relatively small for the time being, but I am confident that with our committed Rotarians, we will increase our membership, achieve the above goals and provide value to our community in par with the other leading Clubs whilst upholding “The 4-Way Test”.
Yours in Rotary,
Sujith Jayasuriya
