Drinking Water to 17 Rural Schools – A Matching Grant Project

10 rural schools from Ratnapura and 7 rural schools from Embilipitiya area were given drinking water by building overhead tanks in their respective schools. Schools who did not have a water supply at all earlier were grateful to Rotary for this great project. This was a matching grant project with Rotary district 1580 – Netherlands and district 3220 – Kandy. Coordinated and implemented by the Rotary clubs of Kandy and Ratnapura. Director, Education for Ratnapura Mr. P. Thenabadu, Principal of Seevali College, Vice Principal, GSE team leader & members together with members from the Rotary club of Kandy and President Ashad, Rotarian Sujith- project chairman and other members of the club were present at the opening.

Hosting the GSE team from USA

This time we had the privilege of hosting a 5 member GSE Team from the RI District 7630 - Delaware, USA.

Medical Camp @ Kuruwita

We The Rotary Club of Ratnapura, jointly organised a medical camp with RC of Reconnection, Colombo. Where the residence of Kuruwita had the advantage of undergoing a cardiac, diabetics, eye & general health check by a team of Doctors from Colombo and Ratnapura. More than 400 patients were served.

Distribution of Spectacles




Distribution of spectacles held at the Bodirajarama Temple in Ratnapura. We screened 334 people for spectacles and the Rotary club of Kandy sponsored the project. President Ashad & Rotarian Jayawardhane distributing spectacles.

Green Life - Tree Planting






Green Life project was initiated by the Interact District 3220 and Interact Club of Ceylinco Sussex. Part of Green Cover Program by Rotary Club of Regency, Kandy & Ratnapura, backed them by facilitating the project. 800 trees were planted in 20 schools around Ratnapura on the 25th of October 2008.

A Day with the Rotaractors

The Rotaract Club of Ratnapura organized a fun and frolic day for the youth in the area, where they enjoyed thoroughly with a remarkable fellowship. Under the Rotaract President Eranga's leadership, we had all the possible assistance for our Rotary activities.

This awareness program was a success and our Rotaract Club managed to convert nearly 30 youth as members.

Career Guidance for A/L Completed students is a annual program of our club and this time the
participation was close to 200 students. Joint project with our parent club RC Colombo Down Town. This was a great success.

Interact Club of Ceylinco Sussex - Ratnapura

Provisional Interact Club of Ceylinco Sussex College was formed on the 10th September 2008, and Charted with 30 Interactors by November 2008. Interact President Shazana, Principal Mr. P.H. Pemasiri, DG Nalin Fernando, Pres. Ashad and Sec. Anusha are at the Head Table.




President Ashad, was conducting an interest meeting for Interactors. Principal Mr. P.H. Pemasiri, Teacher Incharge Ms. Deshanthika and 20 Interactors were present.

District Teacher Training program for 2008, was jointly done with the RC of Colombo Millennium City, with the leadership of District English Teacher Training Chairman PHF PP. Anusha Weragama. Training programme was a great success, and RC of Ratnapura would take it as Annual programme.

Student trip to Gannoruwa


A group of students of different schools in Ratnapura was taken a Agricultural Awareness Trip to Gannoruwa Agricultural Center & Peradiniya Gardens. Rtn. Fasmiya, Rtn. Jayani was in charge for the trip & Pres. Ashad was present along with the students at the Peradiniya Gardens.
